Everything about Aker Yards totally explained

Aker Yards is a Norway-based, international shipbuilding company with 18 shipyards in Norway, Finland, Germany, Romania, Brazil, France, Ukraine and Vietnam. The company is the largest shipbuilding company in Europe and the fourth largest in the World. The company has three business areas: Cruise & Ferries, Merchant Vessels and Offshore & Specialized Vessels. Aker Yards was split from its mother company Aker ASA, controlled by Kjell Inge Røkke and also listed on Oslo Stock Exchange in 2004. In April 2006, Aker Yards bought Alstom Marine, Alstom's naval construction activities, with Chantiers de l'Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire. Aker Yards is now a publicly traded company on Oslo Stock Exchange and was owned 40.1% by the Aker Group until March 2007, when Aker ASA sold its shares, though remaining an important customer of Aker Yards. In October 2007, STX Shipbuilding secured a 39,2% stake of Aker Yards, currently being the sole industrial owner of the group.
